Oldman River Fishing Report:
Date: 2007 Season
In a Word: Good to Outstanding
Summary: The Oldman was featured in Fly Fisherman Magazine this past spring
in an excellent article by Jim McLennan. It is more than deserving of such international attention, as it proved repeatedly
this season. We watched clients land wild cutthroats and rainbows over 20inches, battle bull trout to 33inches, lose count
of fiesty cuttbows on the dry, and all the while get lost in its beauty. The entire river fished well this year with outstanding
action on the upper and numerous fish in the 20in class from the middle and lower stretches.
SPECIAL NOTE: Access to the Oldman was closed upstream of the Gap area because of severe fire
danger during the month of August. Prior to the closure, and especially after reopening in September, the action is probably
best described as "epic", though there were a few slow days mixed in just to keep things interesting.
Water Clarity: N/A
Water Temperature: N/A
Active Bugs: N/A
Suggested Flies: See our Hatch Charts under the Crowsnest River for suggestions of which flies to bring at the various times of the season.
